Srinagar, Nov 14 (KNO): It was around 01:30 pm on Friday when Asifa (name Changed) had ablution and was about to offer mandatory Friday prayers at her home in Tanghdar area of north Kashmir’s Kupwara district. However, a loud bang was heard in the area which broke the walls of her house and subsequently left severely wounded. Asifa, suffered severe injury in her shoulder and even made a big hole in the back side of her body as according to her family members, a piece of arbitrary shell hit on her back and pierced her shoulder. According to the news agency—Kashmir News Observer (KNO), Asifa (23) is married. Her husband Himayun along with the other family members is accompanying her at Srinagar’s SMHS hospital where she was brought at 07:00 PM yesterday. Asifa, who has a little daughter, is not in a position to speak as according to the family, she has lost enough blood after she was injured yesterday. “So far, two blood points have been administered to her while there is probably a need to administer a few more points to her as the injured is already weak,” the family said. Himayun is concerned about the health condition of his wife and doesn’t speak much, but stay intact with his wife, who is lying on a bed and not even able to move properly. Sharing the details about yesterday’s incident, one of the family members of Asifa said that the cross-border shelling started from the morning hours in Tanghdar and was going on till evening. He said cross-border shelling and firing is not a new issue for the people living close to the Line of Control (LoC), adding that the civilian populace their always suffer losses whether human of the property. “Similarly, yesterday Asifa had ablution and was about to offer prayers at her home when a piece of arbitrary shell hit and left her severely wounded. We immediately rushed her to the hospital where she was treated till evening and later shifted to SMHS hospital for specialized treatment,” he said. Himayun said that “yesterday was like a doom’s day.” Asifa’s relative further stated that her health condition is stable and is recovering speedily. The family member of injured Asifa when asked about the underground bunkers along the LoC, said that a few bunkers have been constructed, but are not enough to accommodate the whole population living near the LoC. He added the border dwellers are now constructing their houses accordingly and are constructing at least two underground rooms for their safety whenever needed. The family also said that soon after the shelling and subsequent injuries took place, the border dwellers left their respective homes and shifted to safer places, a few kilometers far from the LoC. Pertinently, ten people including six security forces and four civilians were killed while 20 others received injuries during day-long cross-border shelling along the Line of Control (LoC) in Uri, Tanghdar, Poonch and other places—(KNO)
